The Goodman Theatre was founded in 1925 as a tribute to Chicago playwright Kenneth Sawyer Goodman, who died of pneumonia in 1918. Funding for the project was provided by Goodman's parents, Mr. and Mrs. William O. Goodman, who donated $350,000 to the Art Institute of Chicago to establish a professional repertory company and school of drama at the Institute. The Goodman Theatre features two state of the art theatres( The Owen and the Albert), and is the largest theatre complex in the city. In 1992, it was the recipient of a special Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre.
